This is a great book. It does not strive to be complete but tries to offer a broad base for the art lover, to expand that base at it's own accord.
The base of all art history however (not only Western art!) has resulted in a heavy book. Literally. I bought it in Dutch because I study in Belgium, and we practically had to know it by heart (not the whole book, but more than half of it) which is practically impossible. So don't even try. It's a great reference book though, and I'm quite sure I will use it a lot in the further course of my lifetime. Everyone should have a copy of this in his/her bookshelf.
