. . A .. JOINT CATALOGUE OF THE PERIODICALS, PUBLICATIONS AND TRANSACTIONS OF SOCIETIE And Other Books Published at Intervals TO BE FOUND IN THE VARIOUS LIBRARIES OF THE CITY OF TORONTO TORONTO: THE BRYANT PRESS, 1898. PREFATORY NOTE AT a recent conference of the Librarians of this city, a resolution was passed expressive of the desire for co-operation, both as a means of extending the usefulness of the libraries and of economizing their funds, by preventing the purchase of duplicate sets or valuable volumes. As a preliminary step it was agreed to prepare a Joint Catalogue of the sets of Periodicals, Transactions of Societies, Almanacs and other sets of books published at intervals, with the exception of daily newspapers, in the twelve contributing libraries, and after some delay arising from difficulties over which the editors have had no control, the catalogue is now complete. The entries have been furnished by the librarians in charge of the various libraries, and have been collated and condensed by Miss Grace K. Andrews, Cataloguing Clerk, Public Library. Each book, or set of books, appears under the first word of the title, and in cases where changes in the title have taken place, cross-references have been made. As far as possible missing volumes have been indicated both as a guide to readers and to those whose duty it is to purchase or procure the missing parts. A summary under subjects appears at the end as a guide to those who are desirous of knowing what sets are available for the pursuit of any special branch of study. With all its imperfections the Editors hope that, as a preliminary effort to combine and make serviceable, so many different libraries, it may meet with the approval of all who are anxious to facilitate the work of the student and the seeker after information.
