This fine work, which was 20 years in publishing, is one of the most interesting of its class, and exhibits nearly all the best Pictures of the Flemish School, with the history, description, and mercantile value of each; written by a painter whose whole life was devoted to this particular department.

The picture dealers in all countries refer to the opinion of Le Brun as of the first authority.

700 Galleria Riccardiana, dipinta da Luca Giordano, imperial folio, containing 12 fine engravings in outline, with descriptive text, bds. Il 10s Firenze, 1822 701 GALLERY OF THE OLD GERMAN MASTERS, formerly at Stuttgard, in the possession of the Brothers Boisseree, now removed to Munich, engraved in lithography, heightened by tints, and so admirably executed as to be scarcely distinguishable from the most perfect line engravings; mounted on drab coloured drawing paper, and forming 2 vols. elephant folio, most superbly bound in Turkey morocco, richly gilt, with very broad dentelle borders, leather joints, by Mackenzie, 631 Munich, 1800-36

Published at 100 Guineas without the binding, which is worth about 301.

This work is the admiration of the most fastidious connoisseurs. It is impossible to conceive the perfection which lithographic engraving has attained at Munich, without seeing this chef d'œuvre. The stones, from their uncommon size, being valuable, were cleaned off and used as the work proceeded; and as a very limited number were struck off, sets are already scarce.

701 GALERIE DE MUNICH, par Piloty, Selb, and Flachenecher, 2 vols. imperial folio, containing 200 lithographic Engravings, after Old Masters of the Italian, Flemish, and other Schools, executed in a very superior manner, mostly in tints, elegantly bound in red morocco, with broad borders, 501 Munich, 1800-1831 702 Gallery, British, of Pictures, being a selection of the most admired productions of the Old Masters, contained in the Collections of the Nobility and Gentry of Great Britain, with Descriptions by Tresham, Ottley and Tomkins, imperial folio, 20 beautiful engravings on India Paper, splendidly bound in green morocco, with broad borders and gilt edges, 41 4s

703 GALLERY, BRITISH, OF PICTURES, THE PLATES MOST EXQUISITELY COLOURED, mounted on tinted card boards, with gold borders, atlas folio, handsomely bound in morocco, leather joints, broad gold borders, 501

1818

Decidedly the finest coloured volume yet produced in any country. A very few copies were published in this splendid manner at 67 68 per number (each containing but one plate) making 120 guineas.

704 GALLERY, FORSTER'S BRITISH, OF PICTURES, containing Select Specimens from the Old Masters, from various Collections in this Country, atlas folio, LARGEST PAPER, with 52 highly finished line engravings, ORIGINAL AND BRILLIANT PROOFS, russia extra, gilt edges, rare, 121 12s 1807 another similar copy, atlas folio, richly bound in morocco, broad gold borders, leather joints, &c. with the arms of the late Lord Blessington on the sides, 14l 14s

705

706

Published at 441 2s in boards. The usual copies of this beautiful book are very inferior, the plates having been worked off a second and third time under the old date.

another copy, folio, (small paper) containing 41 plates, very fine original impressions, in wrappers, (pub. at 211) 21 12s 6d

707 GALLERY OF THE GRAND DUKE OF TUSCANY, royal folio, containing 167 fine engravings, (but some being joined they form 147) many of them of a large size and folded, after the great Masters, with a portrait of the Grand Duke Cosmo III. old calf, 181 18s

(Firenze, 1690-1710)

This is the rarest of all the engraved Picture Galleries. It is doubtful whether another copy is in this country. The plates were engraved at intervals about 1690-1710, by Lorenzini, Ver Cruys, Mogalli, and Picchianti, by order of the Grand Duke, and a few sets were collected and given in presents. I never saw any other.
