PRE FAC E.

HE great Reputation which the late Reverend and learned Mr. CROFTS had acquired with Refpect to Bibliographical Knowledge, cannot be better established than by the following Digest of his excellent Library; in which no pains have been fpared to render it worthy the Character of the Collector, and fuch as he himself, it is prefumed, would not have difapproved.

In almost every Language and Science, and even under the shortest Heads, fome one or more rare Articles occur; but in the copious Claffes, fuch as follow, literary Curiofity is gratified, is highly feasted..

The Collection on the Origin of Letters, and of Grammars and Dictionaries of moft of the known Languages in the World (Pa. 1. to 19.) is admirable; and much fuller of curious Books than is to be found in many Libraries of the firft Defcription; in particular (No. 89. Pa. 5.) a Manufcript Chinefe and Latin DICTIONARY, of ineftima

ble Price.

The Hift. Literaria and Bibliographia (Pa. 20. to 25.) include many excellent Authors, and valuable Catalogues: Among other, one of the rareft in the Catalogue of rare Books (No. 427. Pa. 22.) ia Biblioteca Aprofiana.

The Theological Divifions (Pa. 25. to 51.) comprehend many curious and valuable Articles: fome fcarce Tranflations of the Bible; á fine Collection of the rareft Editions of the Greek Teftament ; many interefting Párticulars in Ecclefiaftical and Monaftical History; feveral fcarce Liturgies and Rudiments of the Chriftian Doctrine in various Oriental and other Languages; Apocryphal Books, and Lives and Miracles of Saints; Treatifes of Dæmonology and other Superfti tions; and laftly, the Wanderings of Atheists, Freethinkers and Fanatics, with their Opponents.

The Claffical Part of the Library (Pa. 51. to 117.) containing about 1300 Articles) is, indeed, a Treasure of Greek and Roman Learning in the most elegant Form; when feverally and collectively confidered, as comprizing many of the early Editions; almoft all the Aldine Editions; the Editions of the best modern Commentators, and the rareft and most esteemed Tranflations, including almoft a complete Set of the Collana.
