THE announcements of New Works are now rather numerous. We refer our readers to the columns of our present Number, where may be found many first-class works advertised to appear before Christmas-such as a New and Cheap Edition of the "Selections from the Despatches of the Duke of Wellington;" "The History of England under the Houses of York and Lancaster;" "The Grenville Papers" "Lord Mahon's History of England," Vols. 5 and 6; "Lives and Contemporaries of Lord Chancellor Clarendon ;" All my Eye," a new work by the author of Bubbles from the Brunnen;" Grote's History of Greece," 2 new vols.; "Man, his Religion and his World," by Horatius Bonar; The Works of Lady Colquhoun," in 1 vol. 8vo.; a New Edition of "Memoir of the Rev. Sir John Richardson's Boat-Voyage in Search of Sir John Franklin" will be ready in a few days, "Isaac Taylor's Wesley and Methodism" very shortly, "Hudson Turner's Domestic Architecture of the Middle Ages" is also nearly ready. Amongst the Illustrated Books, Almanacks, &c. preparing for approach of Christmas, we may mention our old friends "The Keepsake," "Book of Beauty," "Fisher's Drawing-Room Scrap-Book,' The Comic Almanack," Punch's Almanack," and all the usual variety of Suttaby's, Peacock's, &c. "Whittaker's Family Almanack and Educational Register," which was commenced last year, appears again in the field with additional attractions, not least of which is the great attention paid to the List of Foundation and Grammar Schools, with the Account of the Scholarships and Exhibitions," &c.

MR. BARTLETT has an additional beautiful Gift-Book, just ready, "Footsteps of Our Lord and His Apostles," printed and illustrated uniformly with the "Nile Boat," &c. Messrs. Grant and Griffiths, as usual, announce several novelties for Christmas, affording a rich treat in anticipation of the Winter Holidays.

We have been favoured with a sight of some of the Artist's proofs of an elegant presentation book about to be published by Mr. MITCHELL of Old Bond Street, of which a detailed announcement will be found in our advertisement columns. The work is to consist of twelve beautiful line engravings, printed on imperial folio, illustrative of twelve of the Parables of Our Lord; amongst which are the TEN VIRGINS, PRODIGAL SON, &c. The letterpress to accompany each plate is in red and gold; and the whole appearance gives an earnest of its being in great estimation as a gift-book of the first class. MR. LONGFELLOW has just ready a further addition to the literature of America: the title is "The Golden Legend, a Mystery." A collected and illustrated English Edition of his works is also just ready, forming a suitable Christmas Book.

THE eleventh volume of COLBURN's English edition of THIERS" "History of the Consulate and Empire" is now ready. The work is to extend to fourteen volumes.

Two further volumes of HILDRETH'S "History of the United States" are now ready: they contain the lives and administrations of Washington, John Adams, and Jeffreson.
