2. What action does the Minister of Justice intend to take?

Mr. DOHERTY: I have had a number of communications and a number of interviews upon the question of the increase of salaries of County Court and Superior Court judges. The matter is under consideration.

2. If so, by whom and with what result? 3. Were experts employed to make observations on board trawlers when in actual operation? If so, who were they?

4. What are the dates and names of the vessels?

5. Was a report made to the department? If so, when and by whom?

Mr. HAZEN: 1. Yes.

2. Angus L. Frelick and Amos Toole. Information was secured regarding the kinds, sizes, quantities, &c., of fish taken by a trawler, and whether the gear of ordinary fishermen was damaged or interfered with.

3. Mr. Toole was employed to remain on a trawler and report on its operations.

4. Mr. Toole was on board the trawler Carmania from August 2 to October 5.

Mr. MACDONALD:

Has any person or persons been employed by the Finance Department during the past year to make inquiries or obtain information as to the tariff, or as to its operation or effects, or as to the wisdom or necessity of any change sought to be made therein? 2. If so, who were they, when were they employed, and have they reported to the department in writing?

Mr. WHITE: No.

QUESTION OF PRIVILEGE.

Mr. MacNUTT: Before the Orders of the Day are called, I rise to a question of privilege. Yesterday, it appears, was an inopportune time to do so, but to-day I think I am in order. I wish to read a statement which appeared in the Winnipeg Free Press some days ago, having some reference to myself. It is contained in a speech of Sir Rodmond Roblin referring to the Macdonald election and delivered in the Provincial Legislature at Winnipeg. Sir Rodmond is reported to have said:

In no case had he found that the Liberals of the constituency of Macdonald had taken
