Wolf, the greatest depictor of animal life now living, has reached in this work the height of perfection. If it were for the Natural History portion alone the book would be worthy the reputation it has already gained; but the accessories, the backgrounds, etc., are chefs-d'œuvre, and place the book in the front rank of Art publications. The artist has been well supported by the engravers, J. W. and E. Whymper, to whom much praise is due.

"This volume contains the last series of illustrations which will be drawn by Mr. Wolf either upon wood or upon stone, and on this account has an especial claim to the attention of all those who are interested in Natural History."-Preface.

Sir Walter Scott justly describes this collection as "the incomparable Armoury."

"This most superb Archæological work is animated with numerous novelties, curious and historical disquisitions, and brilliant and recondite learning-Learning going to Court in the full rich costume of the Order of the Garter-Plates as fine as the monuments of Westminster Abbey. Really and truly the work is admirably executed, and deserves every eulogy.'

Edinb. Review.

The first edition of this work, published in 1824, was printed without the supervision of Sir Samuel Meyrick, who always repudiated it as full of faults, especially in the colouring. Every leaf and plate of the present edition was submitted to his correction, and it was published with his entire approval. 10950 MEYRICK'S ENGRAVED ILLUSTRATIONS OF ANCIENT ARMS AND ARMOUR; a Series of 154 very highly finished Etchings of the Collection of Llewelyn Meyrick at Goodrich Court, Herefordshire; engraved by JOSEPH SKELTON, and accompanied by historical and critical Disquisitions by Dr. (SIR SAMUEL RUSH) MEYRICK, LL.D., &c. 2 vols. atlas 4to. with portrait (pub. at £11. 11s), hf. bd. morocco extra, richly gilt back and gilt edges (uniform with the preceding work), £4. 14s
