The Portuguese like the Spaniards politely address the person to whom they speak as

1. Vóssa Mercê, written: Vm.; it means your grace,
honour, worship. Sir, you etc. or

2. in a still higher form: Vóssa Senhoría or
3. without any pronoun in the third person

as: tém livros? have you any books?
está doente? are you ill?
