Adhesion: The Silent Revolution in DentistryJean-François Roulet, Michel Degrange Quintessence, 2000 - 369 pagina's Adhesion has undergone considerable maturation since its introduction to dentistry in the early 1950s by the pioneers in the field. In just the last decade, however, our knowledge of adhesive materials has grown in exponential proportions, and consequently there has been a significant increase in the role adhesives play in daily dental practice and in dental education. In the past, young dentists could work for years with the knowledge they acquired in dental school. This is no longer the case, given how adhesives have changed, and continue to change, the way many dental techniques are performed. Dentists now need to constantly reevaluate their knowledge in light of the rapidly growing number of adhesive materials developed and offered by dental manufacturers as well as the myriad new treatment methods they engender. This book was formulated to present the state of the art in adhesive dentistry for the dentist who needs to keep up with the new technology. It includes contributions by world-renowned specialists who presented their material at a symposium held in Paris on May 7 and 8, 1999, as well as other chapters written after the fact to fill in the gaps and make the book more comprehensive. Beginning with the historical development of adhesives in dentistry, the book proceeds to the basics of bonding dental materials to enamel and dentin. The next several chapters focus on material selection and techniques. The remainder of the book is devoted to the application of particular adhesive techniques in the different dental specialties, from preventive dentistry to prosthodontics. Leading dentistry into the new millennium, this book gives dentists new options for better treatment of their patients. We are indebted to the very fine contributors; to Mrs Hintz, who edited the symposium papers; and to the Quintessence staff who made publication of the book possible. [editor]. |
