Thus in this map the department of Corsica, (No. 1) of which the tint is the darkest, presents the maximum of crime, i.e. one person accused out of every 2,199 inhabitants. The department of Creuse, (No. 68,) of which the tint is the lightest, presents the minimum of crime, i.e. one person accused out of every 37,014 inhabitants.
