The resignation of HENRY H. A. BEACH, M.D., as Demonstrator of Anatomy was accepted, and the President was requested on behalf of the Corporation to thank him for his valuable services to the Medical School during the past thirteen years.

The resignation of THOMAS WATERMAN, M.D., as Assistant in Anatomy was accepted. Voted, to appoint JOSEPH WEATHERHEAD Warren, M.D., Instructor in Oral Pathology and Anatomy for the ensuing academic year.

Voted, to proceed to the election of a Hollis Professor of Divinity.

Whereupon, ballots being given in, it appeared that DAVID GORDON LYON, Ph.D., was elected. Voted, to proceed to the election of a Professor of Surgery.

elected.

MEETING OF JUNE 28, 1882. — Reappointed for the ensuing academic year, HENRY EDWARDS SCOTT, A.B, to the Harris Fellowship; ALBERT BUSHNELL HART, A.B., to the Rogers Scholarship.

Voted, to proceed to the election of a Professor of Veterinary Medicine; whereupon, ballots being given in, it appeared that CHARLES PARKER LYMAN was elected.

MEETING OF September 26, 1882. - The Treasurer stated that he had received in July, 1882, from GEORGE W. Wales, Esq., $200 for the College Library; the same was gratefully accepted, and the Treasurer was requested to make suitable acknowledgment of this annual gift.

Voted, that the gift of one hundred and fifty dollars from ROBERT N. TOPPAN, Esq., for a prize for Political Science, to be awarded in 1882-83, be gratefully accepted, and that the Treasurer be requested to make acknowledgment therefor.

A request from the Class of 1863 for permission to place a window in Memorial Hall was referred to Mr. VAN BRUNT, the Architect of the building.

Voted, to appoint EDWARD SOUTHWORTH HAWES Instructor in Greek and Latin for the ensuing academic year.

Voted, to reappoint GEORGE Franklin Grant, D.M.D., Demonstrator in Operative Dentistry for the ensuing academic year.

Voted, to reappoint VERGIL CLARENCE POND, D.M.D., Demonstrator in Operative Dentistry for the ensuing academic year.

Resignations were received from H. N. WHEELER as Instructor in Mathematics from September 1; W. H. MELVILLE as Proctor from September 18; GEORGE F. ARNOLD as Assistant in the Library from September 1.

Voted, to concur with the President and Fellows,

In appointing for the ensuing academic year FRANKLIN GOODRIDGE FESSENDEN, LL.B., Instructor in Criminal Law, and Lewis Dembitz Brandeis, LL.B., Instructor in Evidence. A Report was received from the Committee on the Winn Professorship.

Col. THEODORE LYMAN, for the Committee on the Medical Education of Women, presented a report without comment, which contained the expression of an adverse opinion on the question of such education on the part of the Medical Faculty, eighteen of that Faculty agreeing in such opinion, and two objecting. The report was accepted. Col. LYMAN also read a letter from the Medical Faculty presenting their right to be consulted by the Corporation in all medical matters. The letter was laid on the table.

Mr. FRANCIS E. PARKER offered the following vote:

Voted, that in the opinion of this Board, it is not advisable for the University to give any assurance, or hold out any encouragement, that it will undertake the medical education of women in the Medical School of Harvard College.

It was passed by the following vote :

Votes of the Corporation regarding the admission to the Divinity School of Graduates only of some College were referred to Messrs. SALTONSTALL, MCKENZIE, and CABOT.

Voted, to oncur in the election of HENRY JACOB BIGELOW, M.D., as Emeritus Professor of Surgery.

Voted, to concur in the votes of the Corporation regarding the assignment to Graduate Scholars of the unrestricted Scholarship, understanding thereby the Shattuck, Townsend, Quincy-Tufts, and John Eliot Thayer Scholarships.

The President of the University presented the vote of the Corporation regarding disturbances during Commencement week and the revoking of degrees. The consideration of this was postponed.

Voted, to concur in establishing a Professorship of Veterinary Medicine.

Voted, to concur in the reappointment of WILLIAM AUGUSTUS ROGERS as Assistant Professor of Astronomy for five years, from April 9, 1882.

The following elections by the Corporation were referred, — Of DAVID WILLIAM CHEEVER, M.D., as Professor of Surgery, to Messrs. RUSSELL, WYMAN, and LYMAN; of DAVID GORHAM LYON, Ph.D., Hollis Professor of Divinity, to Messrs. SARGENT, LAWRENCE, and MCKENZIE; of CHARLES PARKER LYMAN, as Professor of Veterinary Medicine, to Messrs. Saltonstall, LEE, and HOOPER.

The Board concurred in the votes of the Corporation regarding the admission to the Divinity School after November next of graduates only of some College; and regarding the admission as Special Students to the Divinity School of such only as shall pass a satisfactory examination in the Greek and Latin Classics, and in the Greek of the Gospels.

ANNUAL MEETING, September 13, 1882. - The Hon. E. R. HOAR in the chair.

The report of the Inspector of Polls showed that, —SAMUEL A. Green, CHARLES FRANCIS ADAMS, Jr., WILLIAM G. RUSSEll, Leverett SALTONSTALL, and MOORFIELD STORY had been elected Overseers for the term of six years; and FRANCIS M. WELD and SOLOMON LINCOLN, for the term of one year.

The following reappointments were concurred in : — - CHARLES EDWARD FAXON, S.B., Instructor in Botany; BENJAMIN MARSTON WATSON, A.B., Instructor in Horticulture; EDWARD BURGESS, A.B., Instructor in Entomology; HENRY HOWLAND, Ph.D., Instructor in Torts.
