Books are entered under the real name of the author when that is known; under the pseudonym, or assumed name when it is not; and where only the initials of an author are known, the last initial is put first. Compound surnames are entered under the first part of the name. The names in parentheses printed in italics and not preceded by the word "formerly," are the pseudonyms of the authors whose real name they follow.

The numbers at the end of each title are the "call-numbers" for the book; those to which an asterisk (*) is prefixed can not be taken from the Library. All books should be called for by their numbers.
