Next is a Proemio in two sonnets, and then, after the inscription in capital letters, Lepidissimi Esopi fabellæ, the fables themselves (66 in number); each of which, besides the metrical Latin translation, is rendered into two Italian sonnets, one of the material (or story), the other of the moral, and illustrated with a woodcut. (The later editions contain 67 fables and 134 sonnets.) The last are not altogether without merit. On the recto of signature P 3 is the following colophon in capitals: Impressum Veronæ Die XXVI Junii. M.CCCC.LXXVIIII. After this follows a Cancionetta, Canzon morale, the Ave Maria in verse, and a Tavola de le preditte fabule.
