336 WILLIS (Thomas, of Thistleworth (Isleworth), in Middlesex) VESTIBULUM LINGUE LATINE. * Very rare, most copies having been thumbed out of existence. The only other copy we can trace is that in the British Museum. Unknown to Hazlitt or Lowndes. The author was the son of Richard Willis, of Fenny Compton, co. Warwick, and was Schoolmaster at Isleworth for about fifty years.

Sm. 8vo, with fine engraved title (very slightly shaved on upper foremargin), printed title on two separate leaves with imprint Printed for John Grismond . . . 1633, engraved title to Wither's Motto with imprint London, printed for John Grismond, 1633, and leaf of explanation opposite, curious woodcut between pp. 248-9, separate title to nearly every piece, lower corner of signature N 2 misprinted, tiny wormhole (increasing to 3) at end, lacks final blank, FINE COPY, WITH THE BLANK LEAF FOR Z6, old red morocco extra, g.e., £15 15s * EXCESSIVELY RARE, WITH THE PRINTED TITLE ON TWO SEPARATE LEAVES. Hazlitt thought the Huth the only copy to contain this title. It is the third edition of the Juvenilia," with the Motto and Philarete" annexed, which were not in the issues of 1622 and 1626. Though the printed title mentions a second volume, it is not known to exist. The blank leaf Z 6 and the leaf of Explanation to the title of the Motto do not appear in the Huth collation. Inserted at the beginning is a brilliant impression of the beautiful portrait of Wither engraved by Will. Holle.

Only 4 other copies have occured for sale during the last 50 years, and all of them were imperfect.
