Have you read about Relativity before, or even studied it in school, but still find it somewhat mysterious or difficult to pin down? This is the book for you!In this unique popular-level introduction to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, the author focuses closely on the underlying physical origins of the theory's surprising effects. The goal throughout is to demystify the predictions of the theory and make clear exactly how they arise from the fields and particles which underly all matter. Along the way the book also explores some of the interesting ideas which predated Einstein's work, giving the reader a clearer picture of its historical context.

William Nelson received his B.S. in Mathematics from Yale University in 1989, and his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1994. At Santa Barbara he carried out research in black holes and the theory then known as String Theory. After making the difficult decision to leave theoretical physics, he worked in the software industry for several years, and currently is a researcher in computational genomics at the University of Arizona.
