"There is one peculiarity in Mr. Eyton's plan, which we have not met with in
other similar books-it is restricted to the period between the Norman Conquest and
the close of the thirteenth century. But we must not forget that this includes the

most interesting as well as the most difficult part of our manorial history, and that if
the field had been enlarged, it must have been laboured less elaborately."-T. Wright,

2394 COLLINSON. History of Somerset. A complete INDEX. 4to.

1791

The Committee of the Somersetshire Archæological and Natural History Society have completed the Index to Collinson's History of Somerset.

It has long been felt that a great part of the mass of information contained in this, by far the best history of the County, is lost for want of a good Index. For the purpose of occasional reference, to the student of county history, and to the public generally, the value of the publication is obvious. It at once unlocks stores of information which were before inaccessible.
