[The Gesamtkatalog describes an edition corresponding in all the details given with the present copy, but ascribes it to Ulrich Zel. Proctor had previously assigned the Museum and Bodleian copies to Zel, and he was followed by the Br. Mus. Cat. Inc. There are therefore, presumably, two editions, corresponding line for line. This copy is certainly printed in Schoeffer's type 5, which is distinguishable from Zel's type 2 by its body (116 mm. instead of 113 mm.), by the absence of hyphens, and by the form of several majuscules, particularly D, E, O and P. A facsimile of Schoeffer's device has been pasted below the colophon. The Dunn copy.] Aegidius Romanus. [Both good copies. The first work is an earlier edition of Aelianus' work on animals than any cited by Brunet. The second work is the first cited by Brunet of the celebrated Christian philosopher's defence of his religion. Apparently the first printing of the book from manuscripts, although the work on the resurrection of the dead, included in the same volume, had been printed once before 1500. Names of former owners on title-pages. A few contemporary MS. notes in margins of second vol.] Aelianus.
