an enlightened public will best discern. He has made some trifling verbal alterations in the extracts introduced from Howard's letters; but has most carefully guarded against altering the sense intended to be conveyed. He regards the work only as a compilation, though but a small portion of it consists of quotation. He thinks it will be found to differ materially from any Life of Howard yet published.
