7069 (the same title). Oliva P. Stephani, 1616. 8°. 169 pages and 4 leaves.

An incorrect, unaltered reprint of the preceding, published under several titles, and also annexed to the Diog. Laert. of

1615 and 1616. See above, No. 6174. Neither the edition of Lambecius (Burmanni Sylloge epp. V. 432) nor of J. Bd. Carpzovius (Specimen Eunapii edendi. Lps. 1748. 4°.) have appeared; but a new edition is expected by Boissonade.-Dn. Wyttenbachii Ep. crit. super nonnullis locis Juliani imp., acced. animadvv. in Eunapium et Aristanetum. numbered leaves, the last 3 of which contain the register, the colophon, and anchor. With the Hercules furens, not announced in the title, there are 18 (not 17) tragedies, but the Electra is wanting. Frinted from faulty MSS. The commentaria or scholia did not proceed from the Aldine press. The 2nd vol. is often wanting. The two Dresden copies do not differ, as is stated in Fabricii Bibl. gr. Harl. II. 258. Also copies on vellum.

7070 EURIPIDIS Medea, Hippoly-goedias ex antiquis exemplarib. ab scholia in VII Euripidis tratus, Alcestis et Andromache, græce, cura J. Lascaris. Without place or date (Flor., Lr. de Alopa, before 1500). small 4°.

This extremely rare first edition is printed in capitals (see above, ANTHOLOGIA), and consists of 98 leaves with 28 lines and the

signatures A-M, of which however the sig

nature K is by mistake numbered twice over. There are different copies of this edition, since in some 9 entire leaves and 3 halves are reprinted. Probably Lascaris, after the printing was completed, obtained a still better codex, which induced him to reprint several parts. (Consult Wolf's Analekten, I. 472-483.) The reprinted sheets are (the first impression I have marked with A, the second with B; and in order to recognise the copies, I have annexed an example of each leaf),

In the Medea 4 entire leaves. Leaf A III a, line 13: A. evopaiveтai, B. φρενεται. Leaf A IV a, line 2: Α. λογοις, B. λoyov. Leaf A V a, line 1: A. piλov κεκρανται, Β. φιλα κεκραται. Leaf A VIa, line 7: 4. μογερά, Β. μογερά. In the Hippolytus 3 entire leaves and 2 halves. Leaf Hi b, line r : 4. μεταστρέφουσαι, Β. με ταστρέφουσα. Leaf Η II a, line 15 : 4. συ τ' ἀν, Β. συ ταν. Leaf H III a, line 18: 4. γιγνεσθαι, Β. γιγνεεσθαι. Leaf HIV the reverse. Leaf H V the folio recto. the Alcestes a half leaf and 2 entire leaves. Leaf H VI the reverse. Leaf H VII b, line io : 4. βασειλειαν, Β. βασιλειαν. Leaf Η VIII a, line το Α. νενομισται, Β. νενομισθαι.

tragœdiæ XVIII. (gr.) His accessit ejusd. Electra nuper demum in lucem edita. Ff. (Brubach), without date (about 1588?). 8°.

1137 pages, of which 525, 526, 605, 606 are blank. Scarce and remarkable. After the Aldine, but with corrections, in part very good. The interpolation in the Supplic., after v. 263, originated from Melanchthon's Latin version.. Consult Dav. Ruhnkenii Epp. ad J. A. Ernesti. Lps. 1812. 8°. p. 61. In the Leipsic University library there are said to be 2 different copies of the 1st part. The Dresden copy bears on the cover the year 1563. 7077 Euripides in lat. sermonem conversus adjecto textu græco c.

845 pages, and 12 leaves of index. Stiblinus has divided the pieces into acts, furnished each act with a table of contents, and composed a new translation. His notes are of no value.

7078-tragœdiæ XIX (gr.), in quib. præter infinita menda sublata carminum, omnium ratio nunc primum proditur, op. Gu. Canteri. Antw., Plantin., 1571. 16°.

16 leaves of preliminary matter, 809 pages, and 19 leaves of notes, &c. Neat and correct. Good copies are scarce. A new and good recension, particularly in a metrical point of view. At the end are some critical notes.

Here first appeared the fragment of the Danae from a Heidelberg MS. The notes of Portus are chiefly grammatical, and especially with reference to the dialects. Sometimes he corrects the text. 7080 tragœdiæ, quæ extant, e lat. Gu. Canteri interpretatione. Scholia doctor. viror. in VII Eurip. tragg. ex antiquis exemplarib. ab Arsenio collecta. Acc. J. Brodæi, Gu. Canteri, Csp. Stiblini,. Æm. Porti in Eurip. annotatt. cum indd. Excud. P. Stephanus, 1602. 4°.

6 leaves of preliminary matter, 747 and 846 pages; then 136 pages (nota Brodæi), 16 leaves (Canteri et Porti), 10 leaves (index), and 215 pages (note Stiblini). A scarce edition. The scholia are greatly corrected. The translation is not by Canter, but is that of Camillus, corrected by Portus. There are copies without the notes and indices with the same date, in the titles of which the words Acc. J. Brodai-indicibus are wanting.

Scholia vetera et lat. versio emendatiora. Acc. index triplex. Op. et st. Josua Barnes. Cbr. 1694. fol.

2 portraits, 4 leaves of preliminary matter, LVI, 330, and 529 pages, 21 leaves of index. Barnes's critical merit is small. The scholia are corrected, and enlarged from a MS. The fragments are not carefully enough collected. Yet it is greatly sought after, and sold dear. Copies on large paper are of the greatest rarity, and are the scarcest large paper copies of any Greek classic next to Xenophon by Wells : six only are known, and the M'Carthy copy sold for 1800 fr.
