aTA: Architectuurcentrale Thijs Asselbergs

Essays van architect Thijs Asselbergs en overzicht van zijn werk en van zijn activiteiten als stadsarchitect van Haarlem en voorzitter van de Stichting Archiprix. In the ten years since Architectuurcentrale Thijs Asselbergs was founded, the practice's open structure and laboratory-type approach, its concern for all levels of planning and its love of detail have resulted in top-quality architecture and urban design. Realized projects include housing developments (De Staten in The Hague, Dominicaan in Nijmegen, Henkenshage in Amsterdam) and interiors for the Wagamama restaurant chain in the Netherlands and Belgium. aTA's design for the jazz auditorium in the new Muziekpaleis Vredenburg in Utrecht is to be realized in 2007. Besides the practice's own output, ATA IndeX gives exhaustive descriptions of the social activities of its founder Thijs Asselbergs. He has been City Architect to Haarlem and was the founder and editor-in-chief of the quarterly magazine Items. Since 1995 he has been chairman of the, whose purpose is to bring the best Dutch graduation projects of that year to a wide national and international audience. All in all, the book shows how a functional architecture firm and an active social role can be mutually stimulating.
