THE following Catalogue of the Manuscripts, Printed Books, and Books of Engravings and Drawings preserved in Sir John Soane's Museum, though prepared with great industry, was not considered by the Trustees of the Museum to be in a state proper for publication without such a careful and thorough revision as circumstances have rendered it impossible to bestow on the Manuscript.

It is, however, far more complete than the existing printed Catalogue, and it is believed to be fairly accurate. It was therefore resolved to print a limited number of copies, chiefly for the use of the Curator and of students using the Library. While passing through the Press, all obvious errors have been carefully corrected by a very competent hand.
