up again, so let us consider our latter end. May we think of the mighty, and all their company and all their multitude round about their grave. May we think of our lovers and friends and acquaintance whom Thou hast put far from us into darkness. Oh what territories does Death command! What spoils he gathers! Soon we shall leave our place. It shall know us no more. It shall be filled, while we are forgotten, by them who come after us. May we still live to God in the spirit. May we be with Christ. May we be present with the Lord. Devise means whereby Thy banished ones be not expelled from Thee!

Remember Thy Cause in the earth. What shall one answer the Messengers of the nations? Thou hast founded Zion, and the poor of the people trust in Thee. Thou hast planted the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, that Thou mightst say to them, Ye are my people! May we be zealously affected in this good thing. For this Thou reignest. Gather Thy saints unto Thee, them who have made a covenant with Thee by sacrifice. Gather them out of all nations. Say to the North, Give up! and to the South, Keep not back!

And help us to remember, that important as our domestic offices are, nothing can be a substitute for personal religion. Let none of us

fail of the grace of God. May we seek the retirement, and pursue the exercises, fitted to secret piety. May we prevent the dawning of the morning, and cry, hoping in Thy word. Let our eyes prevent the night-watches, that we may meditate in Thy word. May all give themselves unto prayer.

Convert our kindred to Thee. If they have ever said to us, Get you far from the Lord, may our prayer be that they may be brought nigh to Thee by the blood of Christ.

Pardon our iniquity, and visit not our sin. Wash us and we shall be whiter than snow. Cause us to hear joy and gladness. Fill us with sincere, believing, repentance. Set our faces heavenward.

Our souls wait ye only upon God, for our expectation is from Him!

We give thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, to God even our Father, and to the Lord the Spirit! Amen.

"The grace of our Lord," &c.

FRIDAY MORNING.

THOU the Mighty God, even Jehovah, hast spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the

sun! We obey Thy summons, we would wake up our powers, we would wait for Thee more than they who wait for the morning. Our bodies have found repose, our souls would now seek rest in blessing and serving Thee. For this, save for the weakness of our frame and the depth of our corruption, is untiring satisfaction and uncloying delight. It is sin which wearies and exhausts. In Thy presence there is fulness of joy, and the joy eternally renews and multiplies itself. In glorifying Thee, our being is exalted; and we obtain a gladness in walking before Thee unto all well-pleasing, which worlds cannot purchase and worldlings cannot know!

We come unto Thee by Jesus Christ, Who is able to save to the uttermost. We render all the glory of our salvation to Him who trod the wine-press alone. But for His sacrifice Thou couldst not accept an offering at our hand. Our blood must have been mingled with our sacrifice, save for His Atonement. We are encouraged

to draw near, also, by the belief of His Intercession. How animating is it, to follow Him within the vail, to see Him clothed down to His feet in Priestly vesture, to see His hand trickling with the Blood which He sprinkles on the Mercy-seat, and waving the censer filled with His much Incense which mingles with the Shekinah !

Finding ourselves in Thy Presence, we would begin our worship with the giving of thanks. Glory be to Thee, O God! We once more experience Thy bounty and Thy care. Our substance is not cut down. Our soul is not weary of our life. of our life. All Thy paths are mercy and truth. Thou art the glory of our strength. Thou openest Thy Hand, and we are filled with good. When brought low, Thou hast helped us. Thou hast saved us out of our distresses. Thou hast delivered us from going down into the pit. Thus will we bless Thee while we live. Our mouth shall show forth Thy rightousness and Thy salvation all the day, for we know not the numbers thereof!

We implore the forgiveness of our sins. And such is Thy holy glory in pardoning, and such the omnipotence of Thy grace, that we may strangely plead: For Thy Name's sake, pardon our iniquity, for it is great. This is our twofold argument! The consistency of Thy method, the desperateness of Our need! Put true religion into our hearts. Renew us in the spirit of our mind. May the New Birth grow up unto Christ in all things, and reach unto the perfect stature of His fulness. May we be as in His stead now that He has gone unto the Father. As He was, so may we be in the world. Holy Spirit! shine upon our under

standing, regenerate our entire moral nature, implant each hallowed motive, and raise Thy temple in our breast!

And may we be a holy, a devoted, family! With the generation of the upright, may it be blessed. Let our delight be in the excellent of the earth. Let us not know a wicked person. Let not him that worketh deceit dwell in this house nor let him that telleth lies tarry in our sight. May no one of our number harden his heart and corrupt his way. Shall there train here a child of wrath, a son of perdition? Here shall Satan find a prey, and Destruction prepare a vessel? Shall any be plucked out of this habitation ? Oh that not a jewel may be wanting, to complete the crown of this Household's salvation!

Graciously assist us this day in all our obligations. Let them be never tiresome to us on account of their repetition. As the journey to his Feasts was more delightful to the pious Hebrew the more frequently he travelled the ways of Zion, so, though we know the path of daily duty well, let it become increasingly pleasant to us. However inconvenient in itself, may we strive to honour Thee, and bless Thee for the occasion it affords us of well-doing. With us

let the only business and the only motive be, Serving the Lord. To work for Thee in Thy
