fear that any are yet in their sins! Awaken them to a sense of their danger, and to a knowledge of their deliverance. Let us not seem to them as May they be accounted worthy to escape those things which are coming on the world, and to stand before the Son of Man.

they who mock.

Look with much compassion on the children of the destitute, upon them who have no helper. For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, do Thou arise, O Lord. May they be warmed and be filled. May He who was poor, befriend them,—may they cry unto the Lord and do Thou hear them,-may they be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom. May the rich among the people entreat Thy favour, may the poor trust

in Thee!

To Thee we commend all the children of God scattered abroad. Thou knowest them who are Thine. Thou hast planted the heavens, Thou hast laid the foundations of the earth, that Thou mightest say, Ye are my people. May they lack nothing. May their enemies be at peace with them. Comfort those who mourn. Break not the bruised reed. Give them rest round about. Preserve in them true religion. Let none turn backward. Let none defile their garments. Let none give occasion to blaspheme.

among the people. Let the heathen, who had not attained to righteousness, attain to the righteousness which is by faith. And may our beloved and honoured Missionaries have such tokens of Thy favour and such auspices of Thy zeal, that for their shame they may have double, and a hundredfold of success.

Be it impressed upon our minds that a day must come, O blessed Father, when we shall be torn from each other, when death shall call for us, when breach after breach shall be made upon us. Prepare us for the event. May he, who shall depart the first, be but our precursor to heaven. May he there be found to greet and welcome all who shall die after him. Again may we meet, not some in heaven and some on earth,—but all in heaven! Let us prove this sweet and blessed vision. Let us not long be sundered. Let death

us.

Let not violence be heard, nor wasting and destruction, within our borders. Do Thou keep the city. Restore our life with the light of the returning day. May we throw off dull sloth, remember that religion is the principal thing,

seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and renew our earthly but heavenward pilgrimage. Grant that we may study how to bear one another's burden,-how to do good to all men, but especially to the household of faith, -how to bless society with kindliness, and courtesy, and forgiveness,-how to fill the world with love!

We cleave to the Altar of Atonement, we would be washed in the Laver of Regeneration, we would be suffused with the Incense of Intercession. Complete Thy work in us. Show us the path of life. Raise us up at the last day. Bring forth judgment unto victory. Fix the head-stone with shoutings,-Grace, Grace unto it!

And now unto the Father who hath loved His church with an everlasting love, to the Son whom we should honour even as we honour the Father, to the Spirit proceeding from the Father, the Spirit of Christ,-be blessing, and honour, and glory, and power! Amen. "The grace of our Lord," &c.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THOU art no strange God whom we now address! Our fathers trusted in Thee! We have proved

Thy fidelity and goodness! Thou hast not been a wilderness unto us, nor a land of darkness. Thou hast not turned away our prayer, nor Thy mercy from us. Again Thou displayest Thy love and pity. Truly the light is sweet. Sleep has refreshed and restored us. Its unconscious interval did not separate us from Thy vigilance. Still Thine excellency is over us. From the tabernacle which Thou hast prepared for it, Thou sendest forth the sun. Thou awakenest nature into animation and beauty. The little hills rejoice on every side. The birds sing among the branches. All wait upon Thee. Thou openest Thy hand, and the want of every living thing is abundantly, instantly, relieved. Thou art the Source of all good! Thou art the Fountain of living waters! Thou art our arm every morning; and our salvation also in the time of trouble. We thank Thee that ever we heard of the Saviour's name. What debtors are we to its inestimable worth and sweetness! To them who believe is He indeed precious. When refuge failed us, and hope died in us, His arm brought salvation to us. How can we then but dwell upon that name! fragrant than ointment poured forth. endeared, ever be it adored! We plead it in this our act of worship. May we be accepted in the Beloved. May Christ's sake be substituted, and prevail, for us. Glory be to Thee that He is the

same to-day that He ever was, and ever can be, a Saviour and Intercessor still. Thus will we freely sacrifice unto the Lord!

Our prayer ascends to Thee, to send down upon us Thy free and good Spirit. How helpless, strengthless, are we! May He illuminate and quicken us. May He dwell in us and abide with us for ever. May He teach us to pray. May He melt us into repentance. May He sanctify us wholly. Let us not in thought, word, or deed, grieve Him. Let us not, by any thing inconsistent with His mind and will, resist Him. May His anointing teach us all things, His witness respond to our adoption, and His seal be on us until the day of redemption.

We entreat grace to aid us through these hours of the day. Always are we accountable to Thee, and are always in Thy sight. Constantly are our thoughts and acts, all the deeds done in our body, coming up before Thy notice, and abiding in Thy remembrance. The history of this day is even now transcribing in the Books which the Judgment will open! Better shall we then recall it, and more distinctly retrace it, than even we can when this night closes upon it. O every day is a solemn, important, period of our life! Let us not decline a duty which it brings with it. Let us not postpone an opportunity which it offers. Let us not suffer it to pass from
