Beethoven's incidental music to Goethe's play was first played in its entirety in America on May 17, 1856, at the Academy of Music, New York, in concert form, Theodore Eisfeld conducting.

Beethoven's complete incidental music was played at the German performance of Goethe's play on Jan. 23, 1871 at the New York Stadt Theatre.

Performed in Boston, March 26, 1859, at the Philharmonic Concerts.

An English version of this opera under the title, "The love spell; or, The mountebank of Ravenna, with "all the original music" by Donizetti, was performed on Feb. 18, 1840, preceded by a comedy, "More blunders than one," and a farce, "The review,' at the Park Theatre, New York.

Performed in Philadelphia, Chestnut Street Theatre, May 8, 1841, in English; New Orleans, Théâtre d'Orléans, March 30, 1842.

An English version adapted by Oscar Weil and entitled, "Adina," was performed in Boston in 1887.
