HOLLOWAY'S OINTMENT and PILLS. These remedies are unequalled throughout the world for bad legs, wounds, foul sores, and ulcers. Used according to directions given with them, there is no wound, bad leg, or ulcerous sore, however obstinate or long standing. but will yield to their healing and curative properties. Many poor sufferers who have been ratients in the large hospitals under the care of eminent surgeons, and have derived little or no benefit from their treatment, have been thoroughly oured by Holloway's Ointment and Pills. For glandular swellings, tumours, Bourvy, and diseases of the skin, there is nothing that can be used with 80 much benefit. In fact, in the worst forms of disease, dependent upon the condition of the blood, these medicines, used conjointly, are irresistible. LIBRARY TABLE-LIST of NEW BOOKS. While on this subject of books referred Funeral Certificates "-Pickford's A Week in the York- to the wrong printer, I will venture to digress a moment to notice a case which puzzled me for a long time. The translation of Thucydides (or rather of the French version of it) by Thomas Nicolls has been assigned from the time of Ames downwards to the press of John Wayland, and the grounds of this assignment seemed very unaccountable; and Herbert (p. 560) enters it, under protest, as it were, simply on Ames's authority. There is nothing in the book which in any way connects it with Wayland. A little time ago I came upon what is evidently the true solution of the matter. In Mr. Hazlitt's second series of Bibliographical Collections and Notes (p. 598) is a notice of this work, where after a transcript of the title-page follows a colophon including John Wayland's name. Possessing, as I do, a copy of the work, and knowing that on the verso of the last leaf but one a colophon occurred with no printer's name, I supposed for the moment that there must have been two different (at any rate in this respect) editions of the work in 1550. On reading on, however, I found that Mr. Hazlitt's colophon was "taken from the title-page preserved in Harl. MS. 5919 [one of John Bagford's volumes]. It is there pasted on to the foot of the leaf [the italics are mine], and is in the same type as the rest. Herbert places the book under Wayland [Herbert's manner of citing the book I have already given]. It seems to have been Bagford's practice, in many cases, to annex the colophon in this way." The evidence thus reduces itself to this: Bagford, a man who THE LIBRARY OF TRINITY COLLEGE, (Continued from p. 382.) |
