£9 9s.

An extremely interesting copy, having been presented by the famous Lord Herbert of Cherbury to his secretary, Thomas Master, as is recorded in an inscription on the fly-leaf, presumably in Master's hand. A previous owner has apparently instructed a binder to reverse the leaf on which the inscription comes, so that it may appear diagonally, and the leaf is therefore slightly cropped. The volume at a later date came into the possession of Wm. Wotton, the well-known antiquary, and carries, in addition to a number of notes, his autograph on the title-page. A lengthy description of this unique copy appeared in the " Bookman's Journal," September, 1922. 7 BACON (Francis), Lord Verulam. History Naturall and Experimentall, of Life and Death.
