Robert, 4. duke, born Oct. 17, 1756, who died unmarried July 8, 1779, leaving the ancient barony of Willoughby D'Eresby in abeyance be tween his two sisters, which was granted by pa tent, March 28, 1780, to his eldest sister, Pris cilla Barbara, the present baroness; he was succeeded in the titles of duke of Ancaster and Kesteven, marquess of Lindsey, and earl of Lindsey by his uncle.

Brownlow, 5. duke, born May 1. 1729, married 1. Nov. 1, 1762, Henrietta, daughter and sole heir of George-Morton Pitt, esq. and by her had no issue. And, 2. Jan. 2, 1769, he married Mary-Anne, daughter of major Peter Layard, and by her had an only daughter, Mary-Elizabeth. His grace died Feb. 8, 1809, without issue male, when the earldom of Lindsey devolved on

General Albemarle Bertie, being heir male of the body of Robert Bertie, the 1. earl of Liudsey, K. G. and admiral of the fleet, in 1634, (by Mary, his mother, daughter of John Vere, earl of VOL. III.

Oxford, sister and sole heir of the whole blood to Edward the 17. earl of that place that bore the name of Vere,) under the patent of the earldom of Lindsey. His lordship took his seat in the house of peers, Jan. 23, 1810, between the earls of Westmorland and Peterborough. He married, 1. Elizabeth, relict of Thomas Scrope, of Coleby, in Lincolnshire, esq. daughter of William Clay, of Burridgehill, in Nottinghamshire, esq. And, 2. Nov. 18, 1809, miss Layard, daugh ter of the late C. P. Layard, D. D. and dean of Bristol, and has issue, a daughter, born May 17, 1812, who survived but a few hours.

CASEWICK.

Casewick is a hamlet to Uffington, situated at about the distance of a mile nearly N, E. from that village.

Domesday Account.

Land of Alured of Lincoln. In Casuic (Caswick) Uluiet had six oxgangs of land to be taxed. Land to six oxen. Boso, a vassal of Alured's has there one plough, and two villanes and one bordar with two oxen in a plough. Value in King Edward's time ten shillings, now twenty shillings.

Land of Gunfrid de Cioches. In Casuic (Caswick) Azor had ten oxgangs of land to be taxed. Land to ten oxen. Gunfrid de Cioches has one

plough, and five villanes and five bordars with one plough, and half a mill of twelve shillings, and six acres of meadow. Value in King Edward's time, and now forty shillings.

Here was formerly a chapel, and nine houses, but now there is no chapel, and but 2 houses,

One of these is the beautiful seat of Sir John Trollope, which is a fine stone building, surrounded with wood, and extensive gardens.

Of this family, it is presum'd, was Andrew Trollope, Esq; who distiguished himself in the French wars, in the time of Henry VI. and was

killed, at Towton fight in the time of Edward IV. as also, Thomas Trollope, of Thorleby, Esq; who married Margaret, daughter, and coheir, of Roger Lumley, esq; youngest son of Thomas Lum. ley, esq; by Elizabeth Plantagenet, his wife, daughter of King Edward IV. by the lady Eliza beth Lucy.

But the first we meet with, in a Pedigree, is

-Trollope, of Bourne, in Lincolnshire, esq: father of William, of Thorleby, in the same county, who married Alice, daughter of William Sharpe of Bourne, and was father of,

SIR THOMAS TROLLOPE, the first Baronet of this family, so created, 17 Car. I. who married two wives I. Hester, daughter of Nicholas Street, of Hadley, in Suffolk, esq, by whom he had only one son, Sir William; his second wife was Mary daughter of Sir Christopher Clitherow, of London, Kat. by whom he had Thomas Trollope esq; who by Anne, daughter of Anthony Collins, of Whitton, in Middlesex, esq. had Sir Thomas Trollope, Bart. hereafter mentioned, Anthony, a Barrister at law, who died unmarried, and other children. Sir Thomas, dying 1651. was succeeded, in dignity and estate, by his only son, by his first wife.

Sir Wilham Trollope, Bart who married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Robert Carr, of Sleford, in com. Linc. Bart. relict of William Thorold esq; eldest son of Sir William Thorold, of Marston, in Lincolnshire, Bart, by whom he had only one daughter, married to Charles Fox, esq; eld est son of Sir Stephen Fox, Kut. who died, without issue, 1702. Sir William, dving 1678. without issue male, was succeeded by his nephew,

(son of Thomas, and grandson of Sir Thomas, the first Baronet,) who married Susanna, one of the daughters, and coheirs, of Sir John Clobery of Brans one, in Devonshire, Knt. (niece, and coheir, of Sir William Cranmer, of London, Kn1.) by whom he left four sons; I. Sir Thomas his succesor; 2. John, 3. Henry, of London, wine merchant, (who married Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. John Barne, an Italian merchant, and has four sons, and three daughters, Thomas, Henry, John,——, Sarah, Mary, and Diana.) 4. William, fellow of Pembroke-hall, Cambridge; his daughters were, Mary, who died unmarried, Anne, married to Samuel Clark, of West-Bromwich, in com.
