And J Philip de Rey and my heirs will defend and secure the aforesaid Salt Marsh to my aforesaid Son. Thomas de Rey, and his heirs as has been before mentioned against all men for ever. It is to be held from the Earl of Richmonde, xcepting nevertheless, and which is always to be excepted from this my donation two Salt|Pits, and one Aere of Land (containing fifteen acres of Land) on each side of the River of Surfleet Ea as aforesaid nighsto the aforesaid, and near to the East part of the embanked Fields aforesaid, which I lately gave to William de Cressy my Esq.. and to his heirs, and that this donation may be of full force, I have set my seal to this my pre. sent writing, before these witnesses.

chased of Robert Ratcliffe, lord Fitzwalter, and earl of Sussex, the manors of Multon, Fitzwal ter, Medietas Dominorum, in Moulton, heretofore part of the estate of the lands of the Multons, barons of Egremont. Anthony married Alice daughter of Thomas Welbye of Moulton, and by her had issue, Anthony, afterwards knighted and, by him, the above manors descended to the Irby's.

SIR.

I have to Inform you that from all the opini ons I have ever heard, there certainly was a Castle about a mile and a half south of Moulton Church, the residence of the Multon's, which place bears every resemblance of a fortified place, it being moated round, and the Land bears the name Hall Grounds to this Day. In my memory there have been great quantities of stone dug out of the Hill, which Land was the property of the right Hon. Lord Boston, untill the exchange of Lands in the year 1799, and now it belongs to the right Hon. Lord Eardly. As to the place called Elloe stone Lake, I believe if in the time of the Saxons there was a town, it was there situated; which place is about a quarter of a mile from the road leading from VOL.
