COCHLORODYNE

DYNE. Dr. Browne is the SOLE IN VENTOR, and, as the composition of Chlorodyne cannot possibly be discovered by Analysis (organic substances defying elimination),and since the formulahas never been published,it is evident that any statement to the effect that a compound is identical with Dr. Browne's Chlorodyne must be false. This Caution is necessary, as many persons deceive purchasers by false representations.

DR. BROWNE'S

CHLORODYNE. Vice Chancellor Sir W. PAGE WOOD stated publicly in Court that Dr. J. COLLIS BROWNEwas UNDOUBTEDLY the INVENTOR of CHLORODYNE,that the whole story of the defendant Freeman was deliberately untrue, and he regretted to say it had been sworn to. -See The Times, July 13th, 1864.

the widespread reputation this justly-N
esteemed medicine has earned for
itself all over the East. As a remedy
whether a better is imported, and we
of general utility, we much question
shall be glad to hear of its finding a
place in every Anglo-Indian home. The
other brands, we are happy to say, are
now relegated to the native bazaars,
their sojourn there will be but evanes-
and, judging from their sale, we fancy
cent. We could multiply instances ad
infinitum of the extraordinary efficacy
CHLORODYNE in Diarrhoea and
Dysentery Spasms, Cramps, Neuralgia
the Vomiting of Pregnancy, and as a
general sedative, that have occurred
under our personal observation during
many years. In Choleraic Diarrhoea,
and even in the more terrible forms
of Cholera itself, we have witnessed
its surprisingly controlling power.

R. J. COLLIS BROWNE'S
CHLORODYNE rapidly cuts
short all attacks of
PILEPSY, SPASMS, COLIC.

EPILEPITATION, HYSTERIA.

'Why can Love neither be bought nor sold? Because its only price is Love!

All other goods by Fortune's hand are given;
A Wife is the peculiar gift of Heaven.'-POPE.

What constitutes National Prosperity? Not wealth or commerce simply, or military achievements, but the greatest possible number of HEALTHY, HAPPY, and GRACEFUL HOMES, where the purest flame burns brightest on the altar of family love, and woman, with her piety, forbearance, and kindliness of love, is permitted to officiate as high priestess.'

RICHES, TITLES, HONOUR, POWER, & WORLDLY PROSPECTS

A

ARE AS NOUGHT TO

DEEPLY-ROOTED LOVE!

'In every being throughout animated Nature, from the most insignificant insect to the most enlightened, ennobled, and highly-developed being, we notice a deeply-rooted love for one possession before all others, and that is the possession of Life. What will not man give to preserve his life? The value of riches, titles, honour, power, and worldly prospects are as nought compared with the value which the same man, however humble, and even miserable, places on the preservation of his life.'

What nobler aim can man attain, than conquest over human pain?

FOR HEALTH AND LONGEVITY, USE ENO'S 'FRUIT SALT.' Experience shows that Sugar, Chemically-coloured Acidulated Sherbet, Mild Ales, Port Wine, Dark Sherries Sweet Champagne, Liqueurs, and Brandy are all very apt to disagree, while Light Wines, and Gin or old Whisky largely diluted with Soda Water, will be found the least objectionable. ENO'S FRUIT SALT' is particularly adapted for any constitutional weakness of the liver. It possesses the power of reparation where digestion has been disturbed or lost, and places the invalid on the right track to health. ENO'S FRUIT SALT' should be kept in every bedroom and travelling trunk for any emergency; always useful, can never do any harm. The value of ENO'S 'FRUIT SALT' cannot be told. Its success in Europe, Asia, Africa, America, Australia, and New Zealand proves it.

HEADACHE AND DISORDERED STOMACH. After suffering two and a half years from severe headache and disordered stomach, and after trying almost everything without any benefit, I was recommended to try ENO'S "FRUIT SALT," and before I had finished one bottle I found it doing me a great deal of good, and am restored to my usual health; and others I know that have tried it have not enjoyed such good health for years.-Yours most truly, ROBERT HUMPHREYS, Post Office, Barrasford.'

THE SECRET OF SUCCESS.-Sterling honesty of purpose. Without

it Life is a Sham!-'A new invention is brought before the public and commands success. A score of abominable imitations are immediately introduced by the unscrupulous, who, in copying the original closely enough to deceive the public, and yet not so exactly as to infringe upon legal rights, exercise an ingenuity that, employed in an original channel, could not fail to secure reputation and profit.'-ADAMS. CAUTION.-Examine each Bottle, and see that the Capsule is marked ENO'S 'FRUIT SALT.' Without it,

you have been imposed on by a worthless imitation.

Prepared only at ENO'S 'FRUIT SALT' WORKS, LONDON, S.E., by J. C. ENO'S Patent.

CHAPTER XXII.

'LA FEMME DISPOSE.'

HE moment the equerry's foot touched the uppermost stair I advanced upon him. 'Where is your mistress, man?' I 'Where is Mademoiselle de la Vire? Be quick, tell me what you have done with her.'

said.

His face fell amazingly. 'Where is she?' he answered, faltering between surprise and alarm at my sudden onslaught. 'Here, she should be. I left her here not an hour ago. Mon Dieu! Is she not here now?'

His alarm increased mine tenfold. 'No!' I retorted, 'she is not! She is gone! And you-what business had you, in the fiend's name, to leave her here, alone and unprotected? Tell me

that!'

He leaned against the balustrade, making no attempt to defend himself, and seemed, in his sudden terror, anything but the bold, alert fellow who had ascended the stairs two minutes before. I was a fool,' he groaned. 'I saw your man Simon here; and Fanchette, who is as good as a man, was with her mistress. And I went to stable the horses. I thought no evil. And now-My God!' he added, suddenly straightening himself,
