A famous miscellany of Elizabethan poetry. It contains no less than 95 extracts from Shakespeare, as well as selected passages from the other stars of the poetical firmament of the time Spenser, Marlowe, Lodge, Greene, Gascoigne, Warner, Drayton, Watson, etc.-and has preserved some excellent verses which would otherwise have been lost to us.-See Miss Bartlett's "William Shakespeare," Contemporary Notices, p. 151. The present copy is of exceptional interest, as it possesses two original blank leaves before the title, the first of which bears the signature A, and also the original blank last leaf, thus proving that the book consists entirely of sheets of eight leaves each. These blank leaves are wanting in most of the known copies. It measures 5 × 3 in., and was rebound about 35 years ago from the original calf.

The FIRST EDITION of Bede's History in English. Stapleton is said to have been " the most learned Roman Catholic of all his time." He would not acknowledge the spiritual supremacy of Elizabeth, and subsequently joined the newly founded English College in the University of Douay.

The First Translation into English of Boccaccio's Decameron, of extremely rare occurrence in fine state. A reduced facsimile of the second title-page forms the frontispiece to this catalogue.
