In his edition of Drunken Barnaby, Mr. Haslewood has fully proved Richard Brathwayte to be the author of this curious volume. It contains several poetical pieces. Mr. Bindley, in a manuscript note in his copy, pronounced this curious volume "to be one of the scarcest books in England: having never met with the title in any catalogue." It sold in his sale for 61. 6s.

Jordano Bruno was condemned and burnt alive in the year 1600 for atheism. About 1583-4 he came to England, was well received by Queen Elizabeth, and patronized by Sir Philip Sidney, at whose request he composed the above curious work. Upwards of 100 years ago a copy in the original Italian sold for £42. at an auction in London, and a paper of the Spectator is devoted to an account of it. This English translation is said to have been made by W. Morehead, for the use of Anthony Collins (who did not understand Italian); and that Toland, finding the MS. in Collins's library, had fifty copies privately printed at his own expense.
