Prized. The first complete edition of Augustine by Des. Erasmus, Bas., Froben, 1528-29. fol. 10 vols. and often; the last time, Bas. 1569. fol. 11 vols. The edition, Ven. 1552. 4°. 11 vols. is very scarce. Those of Ven. 1570 and 1584. 4°. II vols. are castrated. A new recension, Antw., Plantin., 1577. fol. 11 vols. Vignier, Par. 1655. fol. 2 vols. but is often wanting.

Fr. Delfau, Th. Blampin, and Pt. Coustant superintended the edition of 1679. The indices are by Cl. Guesnié. The first two vols. have been reprinted with the same date, and the original edition is known by its having only 5 lines in the first page of the preface. 1363 de arte prædicandi (Arg., Mentelin, before 1466). small fol. Gothic letter.

21 leaves of 39 lines, without signatures, catchwords, and pagination: begins, Canon pro recommendacione. There are two separate editions by Mentelin with 21 leaves of 39 lines. The one begins on the recto, and the other on the reverse of the Ist leaf. Both are most important, since the type of the first two lines is the same with that of a Terence, Virgil, Valerius Maximus, Hieronymus, and other writings, the printer of which was not previously

known.

1364 De arte prædicandi. (Mog., Fust, about 1466). small fol. Gothic letter.

22 leaves of 40 lines, without signatures, catchwords, and pagination: begins, Canon pro recomendatione. The first two lines are printed in red. In leaf 16. line 38. Faust is named. The letters placed in the margin for reference to the index, for which in the preceding edition space was left; the addition at the end, which was wanting in the preceding edition; and the circumstance that in the advertisement Heidelberg, Spires, Worms, and Strasburg, but not Mentz, are mentioned; place it beyond doubt that Faust's edition is later, and only a reprint of the preceding. As Faust died in 1466, it must at the latest have been printed in that year. 1365- de civitate dei libri XXII.— At the end, Sub anno a nativitate domini M.CCCC.LXVII. . . . die vero duodecima mensis Junii. fol.

1366 Romæ, Cr. Sweynheym et Arn. Pannartz, 1468. fol. 256 leaves of 46 full lines; it begins with 12 leaves of table of contents. On the reverse of the last leaf is the colophon, Hoc Conradus opus etc.
