The first impressions have no figures under the plates. Boyer d'Aguilles caused this collection at first to be edited by Sb. Barras, at the beginning of the 18th century; and this 1st edition, which consists of 104 leaves, including the title-leaf, is very scarce. It is sought after the more eagerly, inasmuch as, besides the advantage of possessing the first impressions of a part of the work, it also contains 7 leaves almost entirely engraved by Boyer alone, whose plates were not found again when the 2nd edition was prepared. Moreover in this Ist edition are to be found 22 leaves en

graved by Sb. Barras in mezzo-tinto, which in the new edition are replaced by an equal number of leaves engraved by Coelemans. 4901 COELEMANN, Pt. Opus prosodicum græcum novum. Ff. 1668. 8°.

Both these works are usually bound up along with Modus confitendi et examinandi pænitentem Japonensem. ib., eod., 4. 4924 COLLANA storica degli scrittori greci e latini.

By this is meant a collection of Italian translations of the Greek and Latin historians, made in the 16th century, and equally to be recommended for their fidelity and accuracy and for their style. Th. Porcacchi projected the plan, and superintended the Collana græca himself; and the celebrated Venetian printer, Gbr. Giolito, took care for a fine getting up of the work. Still the collection was not quite finished. The writers comprehended in each Collana were termed Anelli (the Collana gr. has 12 of them, and the Latina 20); and to each Collana were added Gioje besides (10 to the Greek, and 20 to the Latin), that is, translations and original Italian works, which without being properly historical, yet might serve for their explanation. A list of the works belonging to both the Collane is in Haym Biblioteca Ital. T. I. To get the whole together complete is extremely difficult, and perhaps impossible out of Italy, consequently even collectors, who are not Italian, with the exception of Crevenna, have never made them an object of their endeavours.

An important collection, complete copies of which are scarce. Copies in which vols. 63-65 and the 2 vols. of index are wanting cannot be completed. There are some copies on Dutch paper from the 5th to the 67th vol. The index only applies to the first 42 vols.

4938 COLLECTION d'ouvrages français en vers et en prose, imprimée par ordre du comte d'Artois. Par., de l'imprimerie Didot l'aîné, 178084. 18°. 64 voll.

This collection, printed at the cost of the then count d'Artois, has, on account of its unfortunate selection, little literary, but the more typographical value. It was the precursor of the subsequent masterpieces of Didot, and is extremely neatly printed on papier fin d'Annonay. Only 60 copies were struck off (each vol. with the arms of count d'Artois). Didot printed some copies, besides this number, on common paper, without the arms of the prince; but notwithstanding these, the whole impression did not amount to 100 copies. Complete copies in entirely good condition are of the utmost rarity, and are frequently sought after in France. The last 4 vols. Tom Jones trad. par la Place, are the only vols. printed on vellum paper. There are 3 copies of the entire collection on vellum, one of which sold at Didot's sale for 2000 fr.
