INTRODUCTION.

The object here sought, is to exhibit in what respect the English Version of the New Testament derived from the Text of the Vatican M.S. differs from the Authorized Version, so that a Biblical Student may by simple inspection, at once see each place in which the one differs from the other, and thereby save the time occupied in comparing the parts in which there is no disagreement between them; and in the places in which they do differ, in ascertaining at once the extent of the difference; and so rendering it more probable, that the requisite attention will be afforded to those differences which are of importance.

These objects I thus seek to effect. In the following pages is set forth an exact transcript of our Authorized English Version, such portions of which as I consider justly represent the Greek of the Vatican MS. are printed in a Large Ordinary Type, and such portions as according to the Vatican MS. are Spurious, or do not justly represent that Text, in Black Letter Type, placing over the same in Small Ordinary Type, whenever required, that which I consider to be expressed in the Text of the Vatican MS. (In each description of Printing, the Italic Letter indicates an addition to the Divine Original). By this means, Each alteration of the Authorized Version is immediately seen, its importance perceived, and its justice ascertained by reference to the Greek Original, while the Student is saved the labour of discovering it.

It demands especial Notice, that where there is no particular doctrine set forth, alterations of the Authorized Version are very seldom required.

May He without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy, bless the labours of him who has laboured, and of him who shall labour in the following pages.

HERMAN HEINFETTER.

Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience, and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
