It is required by law, that a Catalogue of the State Library be published every five years. The Trustees, in their Annual Report to the Legislature, dated January 9, 1845, after stating the imperfections of the one then in use, recommended the suspension of the existing enactment, so far as to enable them immediately to prepare and issue a catalogue that should be more complete and accurate. The Legislature, as will be seen, acceded to their wishes; and, indeed, the necessity for such a proceeding became still more imperative, when that body determined to purchase the Warden Collection. The Catalogue now published, has been compiled with great labor, and an anxious desire to render it as perfect as the nature of the work would permit. The Law Catalogue, including the Law Books proper, with their Classification, the Statute Law and State Papers, has been prepared by John L. Tillinghast, the |
