The Rhetorical Society was formed in the year 1823. In 1825, it assumed the name THE PORTER RHETORICAL SOCIETY- in honor of Rev. Dr. Porter, to whose liberality, in the donation of the copy right of his popular work on Rhetorical Delivery, the Society is largely indebted for its Library. The number of volumes at present contained in the Library is about 2,500.
