A FEW years since I addressed to my Congregation a little Work, entitled PASTORAL APPEALS ON PERSONAL, DOMESTIC, AND SOCIAL DEVOTION. Several of my Friends then importuned me to publish some Family Prayers. The Promise was given, and after some delay, in now fulfilled.

Upon the execution of this Design let my Friends exercise all the Indulgence and Kind Partiality which they can.

ADDISON has said: "How cold and dead does a Prayer appear, that is composed in the most elegant and polite forms of Speech, which are natural to our Tongue, when it is not heightened by that solemnity of phrase, which may be drawn from the Sacred Writings....... I think we may say with justice, that when mortals converse with their Creator, they cannot
