Upstart talents : rhetoric and the career of reason in English romantic discourse, 1790-1820
This study examines rhetoric in English public life from 1790 to the end of the Regency. It posits that the rhetoric employed reasoned arguments while using rational discourse in unexpected ways. But however distinct the positions taken by various political constituencies, these positions could be advocated by common rhetorical techniques.
